Player Profiles – Rahmatullah (Rahmat) Rasouli

Personal background

As a child Rahmat’s family escaped the war in Afghanistan for Iran. They returned six years ago, but Rahmat’s life was at risk and he had to leave for the UK. He was placed with a Scottish family and is studying English and maths in Glasgow. He loves the country and the city.

“The people here have many more choices to do what they want than where I have come from. They are also very friendly and very helpful and have shown me the right way. Glasgow has given me the best opportunities, it’s a great place, I love it.

“I want to become a sports coach and to work with young people. I think that sports can have a very positive effect on young people and helps to keep them away from things like drugs.”

Interest in football

A long-time soccer player, Rahmat loves Scotland’s passion for the sport. He plays for the Glasgow-based Afghan United team.

Forest Pitch

Rahmat heard about Forest Pitch through his college. He said: “It seemed such a good idea, coming together to play football, meeting other people and making friends. It will be a very good experience for everyone and it will be very exciting for all the players – the guys and the women too.”
